## Best for

Rigid, motorised ultra-high-vacuum positioning requiring 100 to 300 mm travel, integrated limit switches and a integrated d-sub connector.

Choose the VSM19-X for applications needing higher axial-load capability, particularly vertical or multi-axis arrangements using option HR.

The stage has a published centred load capacity of 50 kg. With option HR, the separately specified axial load capacity is 50 kg at 1000 Hz and 1 A phase current.

Two UHV limit switches and a 15-way D-sub connector are included as standard.

## Not suitable when

Do not apply the 50 kg HR axial-load rating to the standard configuration. Confirm the appropriate axial-load rating and operating conditions for the selected version.

For 50 mm travel, consider the VSM17-X. For travel above 300 mm, compare the VSM23-X or VSM30-X against the required load and rigidity.

The standard aluminium stage is bakeable to 150 °C, increasing to 200 °C with option SS. Fitting an optical encoder reduces the maximum temperature to 120 °C.

## Selection guidance

Choose the standard VSM19-X for 5 µm full-step resolution and a maximum speed of 15 mm/s.

Choose option HR for 1 µm full-step resolution and the published higher axial-load capacity, accepting a reduced maximum speed of 3 mm/s.

Compared with the VSM17-X, the VSM19-X is the relevant alternative when integrated limit switches, a 15-way connector or higher axial-load capability are priorities.

Assess payload, load offset, orientation, speed and duty cycle together. Do not assume that maximum load and maximum speed are available simultaneously.

## Compatibility and prerequisites

The VSM19-X is suitable for vacuum environments down to 1 × 10⁻¹⁰ mbar and can be combined with VSM17, VSM23 and VSM30 stages.

Use a compatible stepper motor drive, such as the AML SMD4, with the appropriate feedthrough, airside cables and in-vacuum cables.

AML supplies in-vacuum cables for the stage's 15-way D-sub connection. Confirm the complete pinout and cable configuration, including limit switches and motor temperature sensing.

For encoder-equipped stages, specify a compatible encoder interface, such as the appropriate SMD4-E configuration.

## Ordering guidance

Standard order codes: VSM19-X-100, VSM19-X-150, VSM19-X-200, VSM19-X-250 and VSM19-X-300.

Published options include:
- HR: 1 µm full-step resolution and increased axial-load capability.
- SS: stainless steel construction.
- ER: incremental encoder.
- EA: absolute encoder.
- R: radiation-hardened configuration.

The two limit switches and 15-way D-sub connector are standard features.

Provide quantity, travel, orientation, payload, load offset, speed, duty cycle, positioning requirements and bakeout temperature. Confirm the complete option code and stage-to-drive cable configuration with AML.

Linear translation stage suitable for use in UHV. Can support centred loads of up to 50 kilograms. Standard travels from 100 to 300 mm. 5 µm resolution allows for precise in-vacuum motion.
