Mechanical Design Engineer

Arun Microelectronics Ltd (AML) design and manufacture Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) instrumentation and in-vacuum robotics. The company is based in West Sussex and is a leading manufacturer of UHV compatible stepper motors and precision positioning systems for use in UHV and harsh environments.

AML is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer. This is a new role and the successful applicant will work within a small team of engineers designing new products and supporting existing product manufacture. You will be responsible for taking a design brief from concept into design and then onto assembling prototypes, solving engineering problems and creating technical documentation along the way.

Many of AML’s products are bespoke to an individual customer's requirement and this role will also include managing production and assembly of these custom devices.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop new products based on design briefs supplied by customers or management
  • Designing from initial concept through to manufacture creating solid models, manufacturing drawings, technical literature and BOMs
  • Constructing bespoke mechanisms
  • Design manufacturing tooling / machines and provide technical support to the Production Manager to ensure continued smooth operation of manufacturing equipment
  • Contribute within design reviews and support other engineers in the team
  • Provide technical support to the internal sales team

Qualifications, skills & experience

  • HNC or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related subject
  • Strong IT skills. SolidWorks experience useful but training will be provided
  • Knowledge of Kinematics or a strong mathematical base.
  • Self-motivated and self-managed, well organised with strong analytical & administrative skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Fluent English language skills

Salary £25,000 - £27,000 per annum
